Optimization of the design of sound-absorbing tiles by numerical simulation using the MICADO software package. Several tile configurations were studied, allowing, in particular, the optimization of the slope angle of the boxes.

Using the MICADO software package, the CSTB was able to calculate noise reduction on nearby building facades provided by overhang noise barriers along a deep-level railway line. MICADO proved essential because standard engineering methods could not treat the complexity of the situation.

Starting from the ICARE software package, the CSTB developed the OSCAR calculation interface, specifically adapted to predicting the level of intelligibility in railway carriage, taking into account interior sources of noise, as well as exterior sources such as the train wheels.

  • Years  2006 - 2009

Development of a calculation module for congested spaces, especially applied to noise propagation under a car hood. From there, a specific calculation module was developed based on radiosity. This module in the ICARE software package also has its own interface.

Resolving the masking effect of plane fuselages on the noise coming from the reactors. The ICARE software package was adapted to take into account the creeping waves on curved surfaces.

The CSTB designed and installed the CARMEN® system for active control of reverberation in the brand new Théâtre des Quinconces in Le Mans. The CSTB also helped with the acoustic design of the hall before construction.

Analysis of the acoustic performance of innovative timber-framing processes, by a campaign of tests and digital simulations. The campaign revealed in particular the effect of the number of plies, the type of insulation and mix, the spacing between vertical boards.

Study and performance optimization of a range of ECOSTA type sandwich panels. To begin, a series of measurements were taken to determine a robust model in the AcouSYS software package. The acoustic performance of the panels was then optimized by modifying the design, in respect of airborne noise insulation and rain noise level.

Definition of vibration insulation of building junctions of a lightweight flooring product developed by the Rector company. The CSTB also assisted Rector in defining finishing work elements to meet acoustic regulations for apartment buildings.

Ouest Armatures wanted to evaluate the effect of a thermal bridge break on the acoustic insulation performance of a partition wall. In addition to making measurements, the CSTB defined a set of construction solutions involving the thermal break so that it would meet acoustic requirements for apartment buildings.

The By-OASIS tool is a noise simulator which makes it possible to anticipate and control sound levels generated by work sites. Its many features allow for a better design of installations and optimized phasing of construction. Thanks to a multitude of parameters studied and reconstructed on a 3D virtual model, several scenarios can be directly tested. This innovation won an award at the Laval International Virtual Reality Days, in April 2008 (in the 'industrial design and simulation' category).
