The CSTB supporting the “Big BIM Competition 2016”

Provide guidance to architects and architecture students in using the building information modeling (BIM) approach when taking on construction and development projects: that’s the objective of the BIM Competition 2016. Initiated by Polantis architects with the city of Bobigny, the competition is sponsored by the CSTB. It differs from traditional architecture competitions in that it uses the IFC (Industry Foundation Classes) open format for digital modeling and an information database, which guarantees good application of the BIM method. The modernity of the architecture submitted and the quality of the BIM approach are the criteria for selecting the winners of the BIM Competition 2016. This initiative is supported by the PTNB (Digital Transition Plan for Construction) and the CSTB, committed to guiding professionals of today and tomorrow who use digital technologies in construction and development projects. To help candidates check the relevence of their digital models, they are asked to use the free eveBIM software designed by the CSTB [accessible for download] (http://editions.cstb.fr/Products/eveBIM-Viewer.html) and available on the Batipedia.com website. A version of this software was specially developed by the CSTB and made available to the jury of the BIM Competition 2016 to analyze, comment on, and rate preselected submissions. The jury will reward three winning projects with €10,000, €5,000 and €2,500. The 20 finalists will receive the book, BIM et maquette numérique [BIM and digital modeling], published by Éditions Eyrolles – CSTB.
